Reminiscing Devil's Peak 魔鬼山情事

Devil's Peak         by Peter Bok
(a reminiscence with 12 places* in Hong Kong)

Fierce battle fought for 18 days in Hong Kong**
Tide of Lyemun was strong and long
Gunboats fenced the Western Bay
Fighters flied over Tung Lung in relay

Fortress built at Ah Kung Ngam
Hope to extend its savior's arm
Eight trigrams set on warfare plan
At Devil's Peak seen dead on gunner's trench

Long and winding is Wilson Trail
Meandering to Sam Ka Village like a snail
Over hills weed flourished on flight of steps
The desolate battle field is for the peaceful rest

Million graves seen at Junk Bay
Rennie's Mill has high-rises laid
Regrettably battle defeated along Jin Drinker‘s Line
On Ko Chiu Road I grieved over the martyr's shrine

  1. Dear Peter,
Is the Chinese poem created by yourself? A very impressive piece of work!

    1. Yes, I created the poem in English and Chinese. I wrote the Chinese first as there are many places in Chinese. Then I wrote in English and played with the rhyme.
