Sights & Sounds at Parry Sound

On Thursday 6am, I was overcome with boredom and eventually drove alone for 2.5 hours, 230km northbound from Toronto to the Oastler Lake Provincial Park at Parry Sound again. I wished to spend a day off for relaxation to relieve my recent busy and heavy workload. I set up a tent by the lake quickly as I loved this lakeside campsite for easy appreciation of the lakescape. I could also walk along the Oastler Lake Drive to reach the other side of the lake to gaze at my campsite from across the lake. For this, I chose an eye-catching red tent.

Oastler Lake Provincial Park is located by the Oastler Lake at Parry Sound. Its small peninsular reaches out to the quiet lake. The flat terrain of the shore side has a beach and boat jetty for swimming and boating. The other end of the island forms a small hill terrain. The whole campsite is flourished with forest. Traffic lanes meander inside the forest with campsites arranged in order on the roadside. Autumn has arrived and October is coming soon. I have a passion of looking for the beautiful maple sight!

Transportation to the campsite is easy and convenient. It takes 10 minutes drive to the city centre. Parry Sound is a busy region for the freight trains to pass through as there is a freight yard in the vicinity in the north to connect to the other regions in Ontario. Therefore, it is not unusual to hear the horns of the freight trains. The sound of the long freight trains running on the rail in late night has always annoyed some of the capmpers at Parry Sound. On the contrary, I love to hear the whistles of the trains which add some lively sounds to such a peaceful and beautiful town!

My short vacation here by the lake has gvien me opportunities to create themes on photography: lakescape, falling leaves, floating leaves, sunset, silhouettes, camp-fire and morning haze etc. In order to enhance the photographic effect, I was lucky to have my photo buddy "Nobody" to appear in my photo works.

    1. Hi Derek, This is a surprise to me when I took this shot with the P520. I stood by the waters and found some floating leaves. I was facing the morning sun. The backlight on the leaf was reflected to my camera and stars appeared! I changed the shooting angle and adjusted the aperture to f/7.7 and the stars look sharper and clearer!

    Hi Peter

I sent to email a while ago to your hotmail and there is delivery issue so I copied it to this contact.

Just read your blog today and I can see you are really enjoy outdoors. I was last Friday in Algonquin park just for a half day and Fall colors are incredible. Maybe you should try one day shoot star trails while you camp. This is my interest in future when I found more time.

I notice that you posted wrong info regarding focal length for P7700 in 35 format. Crop factor for P7700 is 4.55 so focal length of 6mm would be 28mm in 35 format not 15mm and so on. Hope everything is well with you.

    Cheers

    Regards,
    George

Thank you George for your input and giving me the correct information about the focal length of P7700 in 35mm format. As such, I have made the necessary correction in this post and in the others. Thanks a lot!
