An Early Spring in Scarborough 士嘉堡初春

I love Canada's distinctive seasons: spring flowers, summer rain, autumn maple, winter snows. In a lazy afternoon, I strolled on the streets of Scarborough in Toronto. There are petit yellow flowers covering the ground everywhere whereas the trees have started to grow new shoots and leaves.

I enjoyed the ambience of an early spring. I used the 8mm fisheye lens to record the "spring trees", "spring flowers", "spring guests" and "spring ambience", holding the precious moment for appreciation in future.

  2. Dear Peter, What technique did you use when you took photo #10,#13,#16,#17? What did you have in your mind? I like Your Chinese annotation which is very poetic and rhythmical!

    1. Derek, When I use the fisheye lens, I make use of the pros and cons of the oval image the lens may have produced. Some people like the oval image but others may dislike it as it appears not natural. However, I use this feature to emphasize the unique view of some photos, i.e. making the photo look more dramatic and unusual. When you tilt up or down the fisheye lens, you will see the change of the oval effect that can be manipulated a bit to meet your photo requirement. However, I still prefer leveling the lens to make the photo look more natural but panoramic! Thanks for your good questions.

  4. I like both #10 and #13. And #17 is extraordinary - whether by choice or by design, the clouds stood out as the main theme of the picture...quite unique! It deserves a 5-star honor!

Lucky you, got to play with the fisheye lens! I remember it was quite expensive (hundreds of dollars then) when I was into photography zillion years ago. I couldn't afford to buy one, could only admire people who had one and their beautiful pictures being taken by it. Now (I think) I can afford to buy one, but as you know, I am being sidetracked by other interests other than photography!

    1. Dear Jade, This is my first time using a fisheye lens just bought from the local Kijiji 3 days ago. Although my favorite fisheye lens is Nikon AF-DX 10.5mm f/2.8 which costs CAN$700, this one I am using is made from Korea and is more affordable. It only costs CAN$200 brand new. Its angle of view is wider, at 8mm focal length and the photos taken appear sharp though!
