"Echoes of the Rainbow" is a story about the ordinary family of three in Hong Kong in 10 years from 1967 to 1977. The film reflects the real story of the Director Alex Law's childhood and his family. Wing Lee Street was the venue of the film shooting.
My first visit to Wing Lee Street was in 2010. In 2012, I returned to Hong Kong to visit the street again and saw its gradual changes in appearance. However I was more interested in the design and artwork of how a film was made by the film crew: setup and art designers, cameramen, photographers and how they could build the Law Kee Shoes stall, a barber shop, an aquarium shop and an elementary school in such a short street. This has made the building a reflection of the livelihood and reminiscence of the Hong Kong people in the sixties and seventies。 While strolling in the street, I noticed the flow of time and recollected the eventful years in the past.

Peter,
ReplyDeletegood photos and memory.
Dear Peter,
ReplyDeleteThe combination of your personal photos and the sketches has made the present chapter very special. It has widen my perception and moved my heart. My sincere congratulations to you on such wonderful works!
This is my first attempt to connect the "past" and the "present", the "old" and the "new" with the artwork, an actual illustrative reminiscing process in relating my memory (past) to the scene (present)!
DeleteHi, I have a question and hope you can give me the answers: How to a insert the pencil sketch in your photo?
ReplyDeleteI was using Google Drive to do that in the following steps:
Delete1. in Google Drive, click Create;
2. select Drawing;
3. click image icon to select the first photo;
4. repeat step 3 to choose the second or third photo etc;
5. re-size photos to fit your need;
6. Save or download your work;
7. Done!
I have learned a lot about Wing Lee Street. I like the back lane. It looks like a village place. Where do you get the pencil sketch?
ReplyDeleteThe original scene photos of the film found in the internet cannot be used directly. I have employed sketching technique to present the process of reminiscing instead. Therefore, pencil sketch of the scene is the purpose of my artwork presentation, the original photo isn't and can't!
