《South Meets North: A Musical Conflux》
It is my honor to meet guzheng maestro Xu Lingzi of the Chinese Music Department of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts for the first time at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. We hit it off and had a happy chat during lunch.
This afternoon, we enjoyed the anniversary concert of "South Meets North: A Musical Conflux” held by the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra at the Cultural Center Concert Hall. Guo Jianming conducted the orchestra to perform the "Guangdong Minor Ensemble", accompanied by traditional Guangdong instruments Erxian, Bamboo Fiddle, Guan and Sanxian. "Lin'an Regrets" was presented with orchestra and guzheng solo by Yang Chenghao a distinguished student of Professor Xu Lingzi. The fast and slow temple of the notes alternated with the orchestra displayed Yue Fei's heroic ideals and worry for the country. Yu Zhongxin, dressed in costume of Cantonese opera, sang the famous Cantonese opera song "Lady Zhaojun" with Gaohu player Isaac Share as the lead musician. The Youth Choir of the Music Office sang "Buddha Jumping on the Wall", of which "Two Three Four Five Six Seven Eight" was chanted in Chaozhou dialect. Xu Yinghui conducted orchestra for the finale "Sorghum Red", the concert ended with encore "Pinghu Autumn Moon" and sung by Yu Zhongxin.

《南北粵韻載粵情》:
很榮幸與香港演藝學院中樂系古箏演奏家許菱子教授在香港文化中心首次會面。我們共進午膳，一見如故，暢談甚欣。飯後一起欣賞香港青年中樂團在文化中心音樂廳舉行的《南北樂韻載粵情》周年音樂會。音樂會由郭健明指揮香港青年中樂團演奏《廣東小調聯奏》拉起序幕，樂曲配以廣東二弦、竹提琴、喉管、三弦為主奏樂器奏出耳熟能詳的廣東小調。古箏與樂隊的《臨安遺恨》，由許菱子教授的高足楊程皓演奏，快慢強弱的琴音與樂隊交替奏出岳飛豪情憂國滿江紅。余仲欣一身古裝打扮粉墨登場演唱紅線女名曲《昭君出塞》，頭架是佘嘉樂以高胡拍和，樂隊伴奏。音樂事務處青年合唱團演唱《佛跳牆》，其中的「二三四五六七八」以潮州話唸唱。徐英輝指揮樂團以《高粱紅了》壓軸，再由余仲欣演唱《平湖秋月》作返場曲結束。
